Our Story
cMatley
L.L.C. Alpacas moved to the mountains of western North Carolina in 2015, but was founded in 1997 out of a desire
to utilize 10 scenic acres in the Loudoun Valley
of Northern Virginia for something other than
growing grass. We encountered a llama owner
leading her animal like a dog during a fateful
walk along a bicycle path. After a couple of
weeks checking out llamas, we discovered alpacas,
and were quickly hooked. Our goal from the beginning
was to raise quality, colorful animals that
were approachable and easy to handle. After
purchasing our first five alpacas, we discovered
the show circuit and became entangled in the
camaraderie, competition, and promotional opportunities
that it affords. With a careful and educated
eye toward our breeding program, we have had
a profound level of success for a small farm. While continuing
to breed our loveable Huacayas, our passion
has turned toward the elegant, regal Suris.
We have found raising alpacas the perfect business,
whether done part-time, full-time, or started
up as a retirement business. The enjoyment we
receive on a daily basis, or by delivering that
long-awaited cria far outweighs the very real
tax benefits of a home-based agricultural business.
